An ecumenical school with four participating Churches: Anglican, Catholic, Church of Christ and Uniting, Highview College, is an Independent co-educational secondary school located in Maryborough.
The Business Manager is a significant role within Highview College. The position requires:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Financial Management and Reporting

- An outstanding communicator who fosters collegiality, building capacity in all stakeholders
The Business Manager is a member of the School Leadership team, reporting to the Principal in matters of School management and to the Board of Directors as the Company Secretary.
The Business Manager provides professional leadership and direction in Financial Management and Reporting, Risk and Compliance, Human Resources and Payroll, Child Protection, Facilities Management and Development, Auxiliary Services, School Management and as the Company Secretary.
Responsibilities:
- Administration, Finance & Compliance: Manage the school's financial affairs, including preparing financial forecasts and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws. Oversee the preparation of budgets and monitor expenditure and income in all budget areas.
- Asset Management: Develop and continually update the school's Whole School Masterplan. Ensure all assets are recorded, insured, secured, and monitored subject to budgetary considerations. Manage all property acquisitions, disposals, and commercial rental arrangements.
- Audit, Risk, and Environment: Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and develop and implement recommendations in the Internal Audit Plan. Promote and encourage improved environmental practices within the school environment.
- Human Resources and Payroll: Administer all facets of awards governing salary/wage rates, benefits, and conditions of service. Prepare salary budgets and manage all payroll activities. Advise the Principal on employment issues and maintain relevant position descriptions.
- Technology: Maintain and review the quality, efficiency, and capacity of the school's accounting system. Set the ICT Budget each year as part of the annual budgeting process. Oversee the school's database and digitization of historic records.
- Property - Repairs, Maintenance, Grounds and Facility Management: Oversee the budget and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment. Continually check compliance matters and manage all contractors and leases of public land.
Company Secretary/Corporate Governance: Responsible for key aspects of the Board's operations, including establishing a yearly calendar, collation of all Board papers, and being the "Public Officer" for taxation purposes.
Desirable Personal Qualities and Experience:
- Proven skills in business and financial management
- Tertiary qualifications in a rigorous and relevant discipline (CPA, IPAA or CA qualification is desirable)
- Experience in a complex leadership role
- Proficient in the use of technology in a business environment
- Sound knowledge of employment legislation, health and safety issues, and project coordination and management
- Excellent communication skills and an understanding of independent school education
- Supportive of the ecumenical philosophy of the College
- Demonstrates discretion, confidentiality, honesty, and integrity in relationships with the College and the wider community.
Commencing July 2023, the Business Manager is a full-time position with a 5-year term with 6 weeks annual leave.
