Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is at the forefront of the Overnewton Languages strategy. In 2014, Overnewton launched the Mandarin CLIL program in the Junior School. The program commenced with all 2014 Preparatory students and has continued to evolve as this cohort has progressed through the College, reaching Year 8 in 2022. Every child from Prep to Year 6 learns Mandarin.

Through the CLIL Program, students learn Mandarin and learn in Mandarin. CLIL is a strong form of bilingual education in which students can potentially achieve the goals of bilingualism and bi-literacy. CLIL students enhance intercultural awareness and form sensible attitudes towards different cultures as they explore different international perspectives on the subject they are learning.

In addition to the CLIL Mandarin program, Overnewton offers opportunities for students to learn Bahasa Indonesian, German and Mandarin from Years 7 – 12.

Position Description
Position objectives:
The Head of Faculty directly influences the quality of learning and teaching throughout the College. The position requires leadership in relation to curriculum initiatives, the learning and teaching process and co-ordination of a range of classes in the oversight of Years P-12 curriculum. The Head of Faculty will facilitate student learning within the department in order to enable all students to achieve to their fullest potential.
  
The Head of Faculty will lead the strategic direction of International Relations for the College. Building on existing partnerships in Bremen, Germany, there is an exciting future with the partnership with Hangzhou and Shanghai in China.

Overnewton Anglican Community College is a dual campus, co-educational, Prep to Year 12 College, with over 2,000 students across two campuses, in Keilor and Taylors Lakes. Producing consistently high academic results, Overnewton is a premier, mid-fee, independent school, open to all denominations.

This position is accountable to the Principal through the Head of Pedagogy and Learning. The successful applicant will work closely with Heads of other Faculties across the College and with School-based Languages Leaders.

  • Demonstrated commitment and capacity to ensure consistency of learning opportunity for all students at each year level from Preparatory to Year 12 across both campuses
  • Capacity to use analytical skills to contribute to educational outcomes.
  • Capacity to manage effectively human, financial and physical resources to deliver high quality outcomes for the College
  • Demonstrated support for and capacity to develop and maintain a positive tone and an organisational culture based on ethical professional and personal behaviours and College Values
Relevant skills, knowledge and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in the relevant discipline desirable
  • Advanced knowledge of curriculum and demonstrated exemplary pedagogy
  • Proven ability to inspire Leaders and teachers within the relevant discipline to strive for excellence of curriculum content and delivery
Experience and Qualifications:
  • VIT registered (or equivalent) teacher of considerable experience
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications (post graduate studies preferred)
  • Senior educational leadership experience, ideally in like-schools
