in the UK

If you’re a qualified teacher in Australia, your qualifications will be recognised in the UK and you’ll be eligible to teach there. If you don’t have a teaching qualification, you’ll still be suitable for support staff or Nursery (Early Childhood) roles. 

The most common entry to work in the UK is via a Youth Mobility Scheme Visa (formerly Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa). Alternatively, if you have a UK passport, you’ll be able to teach in the UK.

If you are applying for a contract or permanent role, we can provide a template specific to ANZUK Education. Please include two work references for us to contact who can verify your experience and ability. 

We will arrange both of these checks on your behalf as part of our service.

There is no right or wrong time to arrive in the UK and it will depend on what your plans are (are you wanting to travel before arriving in the UK?) and what type of work you are looking for.  

If you are looking to begin your UK teaching career in a contract, ideally you are starting at the beginning of a school term (September, January or April). Contract roles do come up  

If you want to start casually, you can arrive at any stage of the year! Something to note is they have their summer holidays midway through the year (all of August and the end of July) so casual work does tend to get quieter towards the end of the school year.  

The choice is entirely yours but speak with our team if you need some guidance!  We aim to get you cleared for work before you leave, so you can start whenever you like after your arrival! Whatever suits your preference. 

You will need to assess your visa eligibility to see if you need a visa or not to live and work in the UK.  

We also have a Visa Support team, who can assist with your Youth Mobility Visa or Ancestry Visa application, for $150AUD. 

Whilst we are unable to secure you accommodation, we are able to provide a Letter of Employment and act as a referee when applying for accommodation. Our team in the UK are best placed to give you further information and advice on suburbs and the best ways to go about finding a place to live!  

If you are looking for flexibility but still wanting consistent work and eager to teach in a variety of different settings, our ambassador program might be perfect for you! The ambassador program is an agreement between you and ANZUK, where you set the minimum number of days that you wish to work per week – and we will guarantee you work on those days. If we’re unable to provide work on any of your guaranteed days, you will still be paid. As a casual educator, having a stable and reliable income can be challenging. This program guarantees work and payment, giving you more financial security – whilst still being able to take days off to travel Europe!

Rates for daily supply teaching, support staff and long-term positions will all be confirmed by your UK consultant. Your pay is dependent on factors such as experience and location.  

You are paid a higher daily rate if you take up a contract role (short term or long term), compared to casual relief work as you will most likely be paid to the UK main pay scale. This can be anywhere between £35– £70+ more a day! 

ANZUK offer both PAYE and UMBRELLA as a way to get paid in the UK. The choice is entirely yours and you will be able to speak with your consultant around what is best for you. Whichever way you opt to get paid, you will be paid on a weekly basis.

ANZUK do not take a portion of your pay. You will still need to contribute to national insurance and tax whilst living in the UK, but that is the same for everyone. 

Community is a HUGE part of ANZUK and we want to ensure every person that moves to the UK has 360 degree support. You will have a consultant based in the country you live in (eg. Australia/NZ/Canada) as well as a consultant in the office of which you are relocating to. You will have frequent contact with both consultants, and they are both there to support you along your entire journey.  

We have regular social events both before and after you arrive so you can meet other travelling educators. If you are unable to attend an event before you leave, join our Facebook community to keep up with events happening in the UK!  

Our UK events range from pilates to an afternoon in the beer garden!  

ANZUK will need to confirm your teaching qualification which can be done through E-Quals. If you hold a full teaching registration, you will be able to apply for Qualified Teaching Status (QTS). This is free to do and can take several months for it to be granted. This is not a requirement to have teach in the UK, as you can teach in the UK for up to four years without it. Definitely something to consider if you are looking for a long-term/permanent role!
