The New Zealand Government, through the Ministry of Education, sets the rates for state schools. The private sector is about 10% higher than this. Early Childhood is private in New Zealand, so rates can vary between centres.
Early Childhood: $27 – $32 p/hr (56k – 66k p/y)
Primary: $250 – $350 p/d (50k – 80k p/y)
Secondary: $260 – $430 p/d (55k – 90k p/y)
The Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act (TTMRA) allows teachers to gain equivalent professional recognition and be employed as teachers across New Zealand.
You can apply for registration and a practising certificate in New Zealand under the TTMRA if you hold current registration in one of the Australian states or territories recognised under the Act.
In Australia, teachers don’t hold a practising certificate in addition to registration. In New Zealand, you must hold registration and a current practising certificate to be lawfully employed in schools, kura, kindergartens and most teaching positions in early childhood settings. If your application is approved, you will be granted registration and a practising certificate.
ANZUK Education will support Australian teachers with applying for their teacher registration through the Teaching Council once they have secured a role.
