As educators, parents, students, and global citizens, we know that young people do better at school and in life if they attend schools where they feel welcome and safe. In celebration of International Pride Month, we have collated a list of LGBTQI+ resources to educate and create a safe and inclusive school environment.

A history of pride in Aotearoa New Zealand: Explore queer stories and artworks in Te Papa’s collections and discover more about the rich histories of New Zealand’s LGBTQI+ communities and icons.

How straight parents can raise kids to be allies, during Pride Month and beyond: An article that expands on the ways all families can recognise Pride Month.

It Gets Better: A project designed to share stories that uplift, empower, and connect LGBTQI+ youth around the globe.

RainbowYOUTH: Their motto is “Know who you are, be who you are. Whāia tō ake ngākaunui, i te pono, i te mārama.” Providing support, information, resources, and advocacy for Aotearoa’s queer, gender diverse, takatāpui and intersex youth. They foster safe, inclusive, accepting and diverse environments that are sober, family-friendly spaces.

Inside Out: Video-based teaching resources which aim to decrease homophobic and transphobic bullying. Inside Out meets key NZ Curriculum and Health Curriculum objectives, and was developed in partnership with Core Education, Rainbow YOUTH, Curative, University of Auckland, and funded by Ministry of Social Development.

TakatāpuiA resource for takatāpui and their whānau.

OutLine: An all-ages rainbow mental health organisation providing support to the rainbow community, their friends, whānau, and those questioning. They offer confidential, free, LGBTQI+ affirming support lines, face-to-face counselling, and free resources.
