Great news for UK travellers looking to work and explore in New Zealand – the new three-year NZ UK Working Holiday Visas (WHV) will now be delivered earlier than expected, coming into force by July this year! According to Prime Minister Chris Hipkins, this improved WHV will give more UK travellers open work rights in New Zealand for longer, helping to support businesses through global labour shortages.

At ANZUK Education, we’re excited about the new opportunities this will provide for UK teachers looking to gain international experience and work in New Zealand. The new conditions of the scheme mean that more UK travellers will now be eligible for the scheme, with the age of eligibility increasing from 30 to 35 years, and all having open work rights in New Zealand for up to three years under the changes. Plus, those already in the country will now be eligible to remain here longer!

The UK will move to its enhanced scheme from 29 June 2023, and New Zealand’s will come into force from 1 July 2023. This means that current eligible Youth Mobility and Working Holiday visa holders can apply for an extension from 29 June in the UK and 1 July in NZ, enabling them to stay in either the UK or New Zealand for three years and work for the remainder of their stay.

It’s worth noting that British nationals seeking to stay in New Zealand for 24 months or longer will need to supply character and health certificates. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic opportunity for UK teachers to gain international experience, explore the beautiful landscapes and culture of New Zealand, and contribute to the country’s education sector.

At ANZUK Education, we’re always on the lookout for talented teachers to join our team and help make a positive impact on the lives of New Zealand’s students. So, if you’re a UK teacher looking for a new adventure, now is the perfect time to consider teaching in New Zealand!
