prepare for nz

Are you doing everything you can to put yourself in the best position to teach in New Zealand? ?

Applications opened today for the teacher border exception. Schools and early childhood centres lead the application process, rather than teachers or ANZUK Education. A limited number of our clients meet the criteria to apply, so our consultants prioritise working with educators who match these schools.

While your circumstances may not match the school or early childhood centre’s needs in the current border exception, this does not exclude you from working in New Zealand in the future. The Governments plan to reconnect NZ with the world is a positive sign and will hopefully be another avenue for overseas teachers to work in New Zealand for 2022.

If you have not completed key steps, it is unlikely our consultants will consider you for border exception roles or future positions when borders open further.

Here’s what you can do to prepare to teach in New Zealand:

✅ Get a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Government has announced that full vaccination will be a requirement for non-New Zealand citizens arriving into the country. They note “a full course of any of the 22 COVID-19 vaccines approved by a government or approval authority, with the last dose being at least 14 days before arrival, will be acceptable at this stage.” More guidance will be released on this soon.?

International Qualification Assessment, if required.

If your qualification is not a Pre-Approved Overseas Teaching Qualification, you may require an International Qualification Assessment (IQA) with the Teaching Assessment Add-On through NZQA.

If you intend to work in the NZ Early Childhood Education (ECE) sector, you will need an International Qualification Assessment (IQA) with the Teaching Assessment Add-On through NZQA. You will need this for ECE and primary teaching qualifications, regardless of whether it is a Pre-Approved Qualification. Alternatively, the Teaching Council may have awarded you an ECE/Primary Endorsement Letter. ?

✅ New Zealand Teacher Registration

You are required to hold New Zealand Teacher Registration with a current Practising Certificate. Begin your application with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand, to prepare. ?

✅ Prepare for the New Zealand Market

Are you prepared for the New Zealand market? Principals and Centre Managers in New Zealand often have different CV expectations than those in your home country. You can get your NZ teaching CV sorted with our instant webinar download. In addition, we offer one-on-one CV Support if you need further assistance.

Familiarise yourself with The New Zealand Curriculum. If you intend to work in a Secondary School, we offer a webinar, “Navigating the NZ Curriculum Webinar: Prepare yourself for our Secondary Schools“, which is essential viewing before you arrive in New Zealand. ?️

✅ Apply for Eligible Teaching Roles

Apply for the latest vacancies on our Career Portal. Eligible roles will clearly state: “This role may meet the criteria for the border exception process. Overseas teacher applications are welcome.” ?

If you can’t get to New Zealand now, consider connecting with ANZUK and our global network. They can support educators in Australia, Canada, UK, and the USA. ?
