Teacher of Science

ANZUK are working with a Secondary School in Bedford to find a Science teacher to start at Easter.

ANZUK is working with an 11-19, oversubscribed school that, as they expand, is entering the next phase of its development.

Due to their popularity, and as part of our £4.5 million building programme, they need to grow and strengthen their already high performing staff team who, by 2025, will be working with 1600 students.

About the role:
The school seek to appoint a well-qualified, professional and enthusiastic Teacher of Science to start at Easter 2023, or earlier if possible. The successful candidate will join a team of around 17 staff (teaching and support) on their continued journey to become an outstanding department. The leadership of the department is supported by a coordinator for each of the Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 and there is a further member of staff with responsibility for the STEM agenda.

Science is taught throughout the 11-18 age range and at all levels of ability. It is taught in mixed ability groups in Years 7 and 8. In KS4, they offer both Separate Sciences and Combined Science and follow the OCR Gateway syllabus. In the Sixth Form, students can follow courses in AQA Biology, OCR A Chemistry and OCR B Physics.

The Science Department is well resourced and is committed to extending and improving its range of opportunities for students. Practical experiments are a key part of the curriculum in Science, as we place great emphasis on enquiry in lessons. The team is dedicated to maintaining curiosity and enthusing passion for their subject with all students. Teachers are well supported by the science technician team, and they have an established mentoring programme within the Department for new and recently qualified teachers. The school have well established systems for tracking student progress, and all teachers benefit from being part of such a friendly, well qualified and collaborative department.

If you were to be successful, you will be joining a school that is at the heart of the community it serves and has been making a transformative difference to the current and future lives of its students. You will join a wider dedicated team of teachers and staff at an exciting time of growth and expansion for the school. The school are committed to providing access to technology for all by providing chromebooks to all students and staff and developing innovative, blended learning approaches to teaching.

The successful candidate will be an excellent and approachable classroom practitioner, able to adapt learning in order to secure the best outcomes for all learners. Above all else, the successful candidate should be enthusiastic about their work with young people and have a genuine concern for their development as individuals.

As a school they offer:

  • Exceptional professional development and career progression.
  • Positive working relationships at all levels (with a healthy dose of humour!)
  • A supportive Leadership Team.
  • A genuine focus on staff wellbeing.
They are a teaching school hub and have established mentoring programmes for new and recently qualified teachers. Applications will be considered from those with a related degree wishing to train, as well as NQTs/ECTs.
