Role Overview
 
The Head of Science (Years 7-12) plays a pivotal strategic role in shaping a future-focused, student-centred science program that reflects the dynamic innovation ecosystem of Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. This position requires a visionary leader who can reimagine science education to align with emerging fields, interdisciplinary STEM practices, and real-world applications, ensuring students are both academically prepared and globally competitive.
The successful candidate will bring the capacity to reinvigorate teaching and learning across the faculty, fostering curiosity, inquiry, and high levels of student engagement. Central to the role is leadership of contemporary pedagogical approaches, including evidence-based practice, integration of technology, and authentic problem-solving experiences that reflect the rapidly evolving scientific landscape.
 
A key priority will be the redevelopment of science learning spaces to create flexible, innovative environments that support collaboration, experimentation, and design thinking. The Head of Science will inspire a culture of professional growth within the team, building collective efficacy and enthusiasm for continuous improvement.
 
Above all, the role calls for a leader with passion—someone who can energise the faculty, elevate the student experience, and position science as a vibrant and essential pillar of the school’s future direction.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Head of Secondary and works collaboratively with the Deputy Head of Secondary to ensure a holistic approach is taken to the curriculum and that the aims and strategies of the School are met.
  • Implements, evaluates and enhances the School’s science curriculum, including programs for NSW syllabus for Stages 4 and 5 and the NSW Higher School Certificate and the IB Diploma for Stage 6.
  • In collaboration with the Deputy Head of Secondary and Heads of Year, maintains a caring, purposeful and supportive environment for students.
  • Responsible for the effective and efficient management of the day-to-day operations the department and is required to exercise judgement in recommending to the Head of Secondary appropriate changes.
  • Manages, motivates, counsels and supports individual department staff members.
  • Responsible for the professional development of the department’s staff, both individually and setting direction and initiatives for the team.
  • Monitor, maintain and seek improvement in the quality of the teaching and learning programs in the KLA.

Essential Criteria

  • Qualified practising teacher with a high level relevant qualification in one or more branches of science (Chemistry, Physics or Biology).
  • Demonstrates well-developed leadership, people management and supervisory skills gained from experience in a leadership role in a school environment.
  • Has extensive experience as an outstanding teacher with a passion for education.
  • Demonstrates high-level organisational and administrative skills and an ability to lead and coordinate projects and services for staff and students.
  • Behaves ethically, reflects positivity, demonstrates a growth mindset and contributes to the school’s ethos and community life.
  • A passionate, knowledgeable and proactive teacher with a commitment to wellbeing practices and positive psychology in education (i.e., PROSPER).
