The school comprises of a Pre-Prep (located in a purpose-built ‘Early Learning Village’) for children aged 18 months to 6 years a Prep School for children aged 6 to 11 years and Senior School. Senior pupils pursue IGCSEs and A-levels.
The College aims to provide an inspiring education that prepares pupils for life in our school and beyond. The school delivers its own curriculum, incorporating the UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage and English National Curriculum, together with a rich co-curricular programme.
The Role The school is seeking an inspirational Teacher of Mandarin to take a leading role in delivering a world‑class Mandarin curriculum across the Senior School from August 2026. This appointment offers a pivotal opportunity to shape and elevate the College’s Mandarin provision as the school continues its growth from a first‑class Prep School into one of the region’s leading all‑through schools, offering education from Pre‑Nursery to Year 13.
What you will be doing:
- Inspire pupils in the learning of Mandarin from Year 3 through to Senior School.
- Instil in pupils an understanding of important Chinese cultural features and traditions.
- Ensure medium-term and short-term planning are undertaken in accordance with school policy.
- Ensure that the range of abilities among children is catered for by planned differentiated activities.
- Ensure monitoring, recording, assessment, and reporting are undertaken in accordance with school policies.
- Mark work appropriately and as immediately as possible in accordance with the marking policy, giving individual feedback and encouragement whenever possible.
- Promote the use of ICT within the teaching of Mandarin.
- Work closely with parallel teacher(s) regarding termly and weekly planning, and with other staff to ensure continuity and progression.
- Ensure that the parent portal is kept up-to-date and provides useful links for parents.
- Work closely with the Teaching Assistants in the Pre-Prep to support the delivery of Mandarin in a dual-language classroom setting.
- Partner with Mandarin department colleagues to design and improve the curriculum.
- Cover other teachers’ classes or duties when required.
- Meet with parents as required and foster good professional relationships and communication with parents.
- Attend parents’ evenings and school functions as required.
- Celebrate pupils’ work through displays around the school, as well as through pupil performances at events such as Lunar New Year.
- Support/give whole-school assemblies on an occasional basis, for example, at Lunar New Year or Mid-Autumn Festival.
- Be prepared to attend INSETS (sometimes in evenings) and undertake continuous professional development.
- Contribute to the highest standards of safeguarding and to the school’s pastoral system, acting as a tutor for a Senior School year group.
- Contribute to the co-curricular life of the school.
- Undertake any other reasonable management requests in support of the school’s mission, vision, and values.
Who we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mandarin with PGCE or equivalent.
- The successful candidate for this challenging and rewarding position will have at least two years’ teaching Mandarin as First language, Mandarin as a second language and Mandarin as a foreign language with international schools.
- The successful candidate will have the ability to teach spoken and written Chinese to children of all nationalities, ranging from beginners to native speakers.
- IGCSE teaching experience is essential. A-Level teaching experience is preferred.
- Whole-school teaching experience is highly valued and preferred for candidates.
- International school experience (preferred).
