The School

The school has just over 1600 students spread over Primary (Y1-5), Middle (Y6-8) and High School (Y9-12) campuses. The school offers a unique Y1-12 educational programme that integrates the Chinese National Curriculum with international curricula which culminates with the IGCSE and IB Diploma Programme. The vast majority of students go on to attend world leading universities in the US, UK and Canada.  The school is passionately committed to holistic education ensuring that they are nurturing the emotional, social, physical and intellectual aspects of each and every child.  
 
The Primary School of some 600 students is located in Shanghai’s city centre whilst the Middle School of some 450 students is located in Hongqiao and includes a stunning new state of the art building whilst the High School provides boarding for most of its 550 students in the attractive surroundings of Shanghai’s Songjiang district.

Role
 
The Primary School Teacher Librarian is responsible to the Principal through the Director of Teaching and Learning (Lower Primary). The librarian has the professional responsibility to live-out the purpose and values of the
school in and out of the classroom, and is both a teacher and an information specialist.

  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of the Primary Library and responsible for creating a stimulating educational environment.
  • Lead the library team and work closely with other members of staff to plan, provide, and curate learning resources.
  • Manage the physical and virtual library for Year 1 to 5 students, parents and teachers, ensuring resources permeate the school.
    Support all students and teachers to progress and become better inquirers, consumers and creators of information. Model high impact teaching and works alongside other academic school leaders to further enhance and embed the school’s pedagogical vision.
    Contribute to the overall pastoral care of students – demonstrate a commitment to the collective care of students and developing effective and respectful professional connections with other educators to enhance student learning.

Requirements 
 

  • Bachelor’s degree or above – Teaching qualification, Librarian qualifications.
  • Experience in a primary school library environment
  • Minimum four years experience
  • International and bilingual school experience
  • Cross-cultural work experience
  • Excellent written English and effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent technological literacy across a range of applications
  • Excellent IT knowledge and capacity to assist others with relevant programs, resources and applications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other educational software
  • An outstanding capacity to engage respectfully and positively with students, parents and staff
  • The ability to work collaboratively with other members of staff
  • An applied understanding of concept-based learning
  • Effective administrative and organizational skills
  • Ability to assess student interests, needs and development
  • Open, proactive, patient and caring.
