The School
 
This school was founded in 1998 and is one of the leading schools in Thailand and South East Asia. The school has approximately 1,800 students on a beautiful 35-acre garden campus in north Bangkok, with world-class facilities for day students and boarders. The school is all through with students from Early Years to Year 13, student follow the UK curriculum to IGCSE and A level. With excellent results, each year students take places at some of the most distinguished institutions across the world.
 
The campus benefits from a range of facilities (all available to staff after hours), which alongside classrooms include floodlit tennis courts, a lake for watersports, a swimming pool, gym and extensive grass pitches. A holistic educational philosophy provides extensive super-curricular opportunities, prioritising leadership development along with skills and personal qualities which help to translate academic potential into meaningful and fulfilling lives after students graduate.

Role
 
To promote and enhance student achievement throughout the school through the provision of a high-quality
counselling service for students experiencing a wide range of emotional problems. To support the school’s endeavour to ensure that all students flourish at school and beyond. To provide support, advice and guidance to parents,guardians and the school as required.

The Counselling Team is an integral part of pastoral care and safeguarding throughout the School. The counsellors play proactive and reactive roles within the wider pastoral team to support and ensure the well-being of our students. The counsellors are central to our safeguarding provision in the school and have excellent links with wider support services in the city. The counsellors are active members of the Bangkok Counselling Network and the South East Asia School Counsellors Network.

Requirements

  • Postgraduate Diploma or Degree level qualification in counselling
  • Accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
  • Membership of, or willingness to join, the International School Counsellors Association (ISCA)
  • Further therapeutic training or qualification in working with children and young people, for example in Play Therapy or Art Therapy
  • Experience and/or understanding of supporting children and young people with developmental, emotional, social and educational issues across our full age range
  • An awareness of the range of needs of people from diverse ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds
  • An appreciation of working with students and families for whom English is not their first language
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to the safeguarding of children, (Keeping Children Safe in
    Education; Children Act 2004; and Thai Child Protection Act 2546 (2003))
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Positive communication and listening skills
  • Ability to build appropriate relationships
  • Patience, tolerance and sensitivity
  • A mature and non-judgemental outlook
  • All School counsellors are required to have regular supervision with a qualified external provider, this will be
    arranged by the School
