International Educators – Arriving in Australia

Great news!! From the 15th of December, 2021, fully vaccinated eligible visa holders can come to Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption! Here are all the details and helpful links you need to know…

COVID-19 and the AUS border

Recognised vaccines:

Two doses at least 14 days apart of:

  • AstraZeneca Vaxzevria
  • AstraZeneca Covishield
  • Pfizer/Biontech Comirnaty
  • Moderna Spikevax
  • Sinovac Coronavac
  • Bharat Biotech Covaxin
  • Sinopharm BBIBP-CorV (for 18-60 year olds).

Or one dose of:

  • Johnson & Johnson/ Janssen-Cilag COVID Vaccine.

If you were vaccinated overseas and do not have an ICVC (International Covid Vaccine Certificate), you will need to present a foreign vaccination certificate that meets all of the requirements outlined on the Australian Passport Office website
Coming to Australia
You should check any requirements, particularly quarantine requirements, in the state or territory to which you are travelling as this will impact your travel arrangements

If you are planning on traveling onwards to or through a different state or territory when you arrive in Australia, you need to check domestic travel restrictions

Travellers coming to Australia may only enter and travel between NSW, VIC and the ACT without quarantining

*At the time of publishing NSW and VIC require new arrivals to isolate for 72hrs, get a COVID-19 PCR test within 24hrs of arriving and then another between day 5 and 7 of entering the country.
What I need to do before I travel
If you are a fully vaccinated traveler exempt from travel restrictions, follow the steps in the traveller checklist when you are preparing to travel to Australia
Australia Travel Declaration
Travellers to Australia should complete an Australia Travel Declaration (ATD) at least 72 hours before departure
Pre-departure COVID-19 test
A negative COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test result is required for travelling to or transiting through Australia. Evidence of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 3 days before your flight’s scheduled departure must be provided to your airline when you check in
