Week 5 means it’s time for Caley McLean; the newest member of the east team who has recently joined us to assist Laura and myself in working with special needs schools in the east. Initially working with us as a teacher, Caley showed all the credentials to make an excellent consultant and he has hit the ground running.

Rob: How long have you been working at anzuk for now?

Caley: A grand total of about 6 weeks.

Rob: And in that very short space of time, what have you enjoyed most about your time with anzuk?

Caley: Knowing that I am indirectly influencing students and also being able to assist teachers and teaching assistants in finding work. On top of that, I am able to bring some good chat to the east team.

Rob: “Good?” Don’t underestimate yourself! You’ve got the 6th best chat. Since moving to Melbourne, what have you enjoyed most about living in this city?

Caley: The culture is awesome. There is always something happening and so many different things to do and see. The people on this side of the ditch (and I hate to say it) are very friendly too.

Rob: Very decent bunch here eh! Outside of work, what are your hobbies and interests?

Caley: I love playing and watching rugby league. Try to stay in shape (good one) so make an effort to go to the gym and enjoy catching up with friends.

Rob: Will the NZ Warriors win the comp this year?

Caley: Yes. But realistically no. Keep the faith, let’s go warriors!

Rob: Tell me one thing that most people wouldn’t know about you.

Caley: Most people don’t know that I am Maori because of the colour of my skin and my first and last name. My middle name makes many second guess that (Ngarimu Te Wera).

Rob: Not even going to attempt to say that. Can you do the haka?

Caley: Ae

Rob: Having been a CRT in Melbourne when you first moved here, do you have any advice for casual teachers?

Caley: Having known absolutely nothing about the city or schools, it’s a really good way to see the city, find out what different schools are like, which schools align with your pedagogies, and also a really great way to meet new people!

Rob: Spot on. Can you speak any other languages?

Caley: I can speak basic Te Reo Maori.

Rob: Basic? Or are you being modest again Caley? What do you see in the future for anzuk?

Caley: This is a work place of endless opportunity. Safe to say it will be a very well known international company that sits at the forefront of educational recruitment.

Rob: With people like you working here Caley, no doubt that will be the outcome!

Caley has made a fantastic start to his time with anzuk and has been exceptional in all areas of the role. He’s been getting to know all the teachers and teaching assistants he’ll be working with as well as recruiting plenty more in preparation for term 3. If you know of anyone who is interested in working in special needs in any type of capacity, please contact him on caley.m@anzuk.education or 9249 2444 (ext 271). No experience necessary as we are happy to assist with professional development, just an open mind and a desire to help children with special needs is all that’s required!
