National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day is held every year on August 4, and is the initiative of SNAICC – National Voice for our Children.
Children’s Day is a time to celebrate the strengths and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities. It is an opportunity to show support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.
We have created a resource guide for early learning centres and educators to guide you in teaching the leaders of tomorrow about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures. This guide includes activities/games that have been adapted from resources on Reconciliation Australia’s Narragunnawali platform.
Reconciliation Australia’s Narragunnawali: Reconciliation in Educationprogram andonline platformis designed to support all schools and early learning services in Australia to develop environments that foster a highlevel of knowledge and pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions. The Narragunnawali online platform is free to access and provides practical ways to introduce meaningful reconciliation initiatives in the classroom, around the school and with the community. Through the Narragunnawali platform, schools and early learning services can develop aReconciliation Action Plan(RAP), and teachers and educators can accessprofessional learningandcurriculum resourcesto support the implementation of reconciliation initiatives.
