We all know how important it is to be physically active – the school gym, footy oval, park, and playground may be closed, but there are still lots of options for exercising at home, even during a quarantine. We’ve put together a list of online PE resources, lesson plans (from early childhood to senior students) and virtual exercise classes to keep families moving!
Lesson plans, games, and resources for physical fitness
- PE Central: Videos, skill challenges, and lesson plans for all ages.
- Cosmic kids (Prep – 2): A fantastic resource to get kids moving their bodies. This channel is filled with yoga routines themed around popular children’s stories.
- Breathe & Learn: Free online yoga classes. These classes incorporate breathing exercises, movement, story, journaling, and song.
- Jump Start Jonny: This is a dance/ aerobics platform where children can follow the dances with a rather excitable leader on the screen.
- Exploritorium: Explore the science of popular sports including baseball, basketball and skateboarding.
- Teach Starter, Fitness Bingo: Thirty-two different fitness bingo grids for all ages. To play, give each student a bingo grid then pull out a fitness card from the pile. Students do the activity on the card then, if they have the corresponding fitness activity on their grid, students put a marker over the square that contains that activity. The first student to cover three pictures vertically or horizontally wins!
- GoNoodle: Movement and mindfulness videos created by child development experts.
- Sworkit Kid-friendly workouts: – choose from Strength for Kids, Agility for Kids, Flexibility and Balance for Kids, Warm-Up for Kids, Cooldown for Kids, Stand Up and Move for Kids, OR create your own custom kid workout.
- Cosmic Kids Yoga: Yoga and mindfulness for younger kids.
- Spark: Free PE lesson plans from early childhood through high school.
- STEM Sports: Combining physical activity and cognitive thinking and it’s pretty awesome! Your kids will be asked to reflect on things like Newton’s Third Law while dribbling a basketball – STEM and PE combined at its finest!
- The Body Coach TV: weekly PE lessons and HIIT workouts to help kids of all ages get fitter, stronger and healthier. You don’t need a gym to get lean and most of the workouts can be done anywhere with no equipment.
- Dance with Mark Kanemura: Lady Gaga’s former backup dancer, Mark Kanemura, is hosting virtual dance sessions on his Instagram page!
- Scootle Health and Physical Education: Resources are currently aligned with the Australian Curriculum: Search lessons by year level, strand, general capability or cross curriculum priority.
- ABC Education: These health and physical education resources are mapped to the Australian Curriculum and are appropriate for both primary and secondary students.
