Top 5 “must-sees” in England’s Southwest

The South West of England is truly a hidden gem for many Australians, Kiwis, or Canadians that venture over to the UK.

With beautiful hidden British towns, magnificent beaches, breath-taking national parks, alongside one of England’s coolest cities in Bristol (with an international airport), to only name a few places. There’s more than a lot to see!

In the summer of 2020, when travelling overseas from the UK wasn’t the easiest of options – my partner & I, with a group of friends, decided to look locally & explore England’s South West.

We had a 3-week road trip around the South West of England, spending time in Bristol, Cornwall, The Cotswolds, Devon, Dorset & Somerset. It ended up being easily one of my favourite trips during my 4 and a half years living in the UK.

& Whilst a mainland European summer is a lot more accessible now, than it was then. If you are wanting to enjoy stunning beaches & national parks, vibrant towns & cities, without jumping on a plane, then you don’t need to look any further than England’s South West.

It’s almost impossible to pick, but here are our top 5 spots you must see:

Bristol

One of the most vibrant places in England. A cultural & youth hub – home to many bars, cafes, artistic centers, Uni students & also the artist Bansky.

Be sure to drop into our Bristol office & say G’day to the team! They really are a motley crew!

Porthcurno, Cornwall

With the feel of a Mediterranean beach & being almost the southernmost point on the mainland of England, you can easily mistake yourself & think you are at a beach in Southern France.

Make sure you get there early in the day, as parking is limited & if unlucky you may miss out on a spot altogether.

Durdle Door, Jurassic Coast

Breath-taking… Is probably the easiest way to put it.

Swimming underneath & around the Durdle Door during a sunset is a moment you’ll never forget.

The Cotswold

Rain, hail, snow, or shine. The Cotswold is a beautiful place to be. Each town is unique & beautiful in its own right!

Two of my favourites are Upper & Lower Slaughter – places that sound like something from a horror movie but are two quintessential Cotswold towns.

Salcombe, Devon

With water in almost every direction, it almost felt impossible to not enjoy Salcombe. Ferry transport can get you around between the different towns & beaches, ensure you bring a towel & allow for an entire day there!

Just missed the cut… But still notable mentions

New Forest, Southwest Hampshire, and Southeast Wiltshire.

Beer, Devon (Yes, there is a town in England called Beer)

St Ives, Cornwall
