Virtual Interviewing: Secure your next teaching role!

Two amazing anzuk team members, Janine and Mike, are here to chat to you about virtual interviewing. A subject that is close to their hearts!

Visual Educators

What is it?

Basically, you’d create a short Personal Statement video using a selfie camera or a webcam. The idea is to highlight your experience, teaching philosophy, passionate subject areas, and the value you would add to a school. This video would then be sent to schools we work with in order to highlight the incredible educators we are working with who are available when schools re-open. Our aim is that this will be a powerful tool for educators to present themselves outside of the norm of sending CVs and references to potential employers. The current situation we all find ourselves in is largely out of our control, so let’s use technology to our advantage to help secure interviews for the new academic year.

Skype Interviewing

Being an agency who works with so many overseas trained teachers, we have had a lot of experience supporting educators in preparation for skype interviews, and we’ve had some amazing successes!

How does it work?

Prior to arranging a skype interview, we would chat to you about the role. We’d talk you through the elements of the role, the school, the classes, behaviour, etc. And then if it’s something you want to explore further, we would speak to the school about you and arrange a time and date for a skype interview.

What to expect

The beginning of the virtual interview would be similar to that of a regular interview. You could expect openings like – “Tell us a bit about yourself”. They’ll want to get a feel for you as a person before jumping into a discussion about your background and experience. They would already have a copy of your CV, but they’ll likely want to delve a little deeper. From your side, it’s important to have prepared why this role and school is of interest to you.

It’s also important to note that they will always ask you about safeguarding as well. If you need any support with this, don’t hesitate to reach out to your consultant!

After the interview has finished, text or call your consultant for a de-brief. Your consultant will then follow up with the school for feedback and get back to you.

Interview tips

- Make sure you are sat at your computer ready to go 10 minutes before
- Dress presentably
- Be prepared. Read over the school’s website, paying close attention to their ethos
- Use the STAR technique – Situation, Task, Action, Results – is an effective way for answering questions
- Take your time answering questions. Be clear, and try not to rush
- Don’t be afraid to ask them to repeat a question
- Have a few questions up your sleeve for the end of the interview. For example, “What’s the staff culture like?” or “Are there opportunities for professional development?”
