5 Top Tips for a Great CV

In the market for a new role? Looking for that new position can be a lengthy process and your CV is the first step to getting your foot in the door. This can make the difference between your CV being added to the interview pile rather than the rubbish pile! Our teachers often ask us what exactly needs to go into their CV, so I’ve put together my top tips for ensuring your CV stands out, making it easy for the school to see why you would be an ideal candidate!

1. Education: Where you studied, what you studied, subjects you majored in and the dates you were there. This is a big help to a school if they are looking for a particular specialist. Think;
2. Relevant Teaching Experience: Include your relevant teaching or supporting work history from most recent first. This includes the school name, your position (eg Grade 4 Teacher) and the dates you where there. It is always good to write a small description of the school first and then add in your responsibilities and achievements.
3. Work History: You can then add in your other work history but keep it brief and to the point. A school will not need to know the details of your responsibilities if you had a job in a retail store.
4. Professional Memberships: Include your professional memberships and registrations and also any professional development you have already done.
5. Keep It Short: Keep your CV to 2 pages, any more than this and the reader will lose interest, any less and you may not have provided enough information.
